As a long time author, published by both big houses and self-published and with books now out in three languages, I can say that finding the right agent is after all that work (which you must do) still a needle in a haystack. For THEM as well as for you. This doesn't let you off the hook for doing your homework and plugging away, but if you are out there struggling and wondering if the fact taht you can't find the right agent is evidence that your work isn't any good, I'd say it's not a good indication. The fact that it is hard to find the right agent may having nothing to do with the quality of your work. Now, if you write poorly, you won't ever find an agent. But if you write well, it may just be that it is a really tough market. It would have been nice for someone to tell me that early on, so I pass it on here.
